Liverpool have announced that Sadio Mane has undergone a “successful” operation on his hand injury

The 26-year-old forward allegedly broke his thumb in a training incident with the Senegal squad prior to their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan on Tuesday.

Despite the absence of Mane, the Lions of Teranga still managed to grab a 1-0 win at Sudan through Ismaïla Sarr’s 86th-minute goal.

Mane has since returned to Liverpool for surgery and remains a doubt ahead of Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield Town in the Premier League.

“The surgery, conducted at a north-west hospital and supervised by club medics, was successful,” read a statement on the club website.

“Mane’s recovery will be monitored over the next couple of days ahead of the Reds’ return to action at Huddersfield Town on Saturday.”

Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita are also injury concerns for Liverpool.
