Marinos Ouzounidis was pleased with AEK Athens’ performance, despite losing 2-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League

The Greek champions are now eliminated from the competition following Wednesday’s defeat in Munich.

A Robert Lewandowski double for Bayern proved to be the difference between the sides as the Germans became the Group E sole leaders.

But Ouzounidis was satisfied with his AEK side anyway.

“I think my team played well, just as we had hoped,” Ouzounidis told UEFA.com.

“We wanted to press our opponents on the wings so that we could create space. We didn’t just play defensively.

“We wanted to have possession, which is why we had four midfielders with the aim of moving the ball around.

“Maybe we could have done more, but it was the first time we played like that so I’m happy with how we did.”

Bottom-side AEK will next host second-place Ajax in the penultimate Group E fixture on November 27 in Greece.
