Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus dedicated a very special night in his career to none other than his mother

The 21-year-old scored his first treble for City in Wednesday’s 6-0 thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Jesus netted two penalties at the Etihad Stadium and later completed his hat-trick by chipping the ball over Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov.

And watching in the stands, while Jesus grabbed his hat-trick, was his mother.

“I’m very happy,” Jesus told CityTV. “The first hat-trick of my career. I have never done it before and tonight is a very special night for me.

“I’ve been working a lot with strength and conditioning, despite the rotation in the team I’ve been working hard at this.

“That’s what has to be done because there are so many good players of quality, everyone have to play.

“I’m really happy to be able to work and keep my head up and keep going.

“My mum is here and these goals are for her!”

David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez were the other goalscorers for City, who now lead Group F by three points from Lyon.
