Real Madrid interim coach Santiago Solari admires Keylor Navas’ professionalism after omitting him from the club’s 5-0 Champions League win at Viktoria Plzen

The Costa Rican had been selected in goal for all three of Real’s Champions League games this season before Wednesday night.

However, Solari instead opted to start Thibaut Courtois for the trip to the Czech Republic.

This has led to even further uncertainty surrounding Navas’ future at Real with Courtois now the club’s regular number one in La Liga.

But Solari insists he only has admiration for Navas, amid these difficult circumstances.

“Keylor is a class act. I made a decision. Keylor has my full admiration as a player and as a person,” Solari told reporters on the club website.

“He is important to the squad, even when he is not playing. He is really well loved and continues to prove vital, even when he is not playing”.

“The players are very well equipped and that’s to their credit. It’s a long old season and you go through different phases.

“We now face another very difficult game on Sunday and we’ll have to approach it with the same disciplined attitude”.

Navas has made six appearances for Real this season with the last one coming on October 23 in the 2-1 win over Plzen last time out.

Real will next face a trip to Celta Vigo on Sunday in La Liga.
