Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has heaped praises on Virgil Van Dijk, saying he knew the player would be outstanding.
Klopp praises the impact of Van Dijk since the defender’s arrival at the Merseyside club in January 2018.
The Netherlands captain is expected to have a key role to play when Liverpool host Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.
The former Southampton defensive stalwart has led a much-improved Liverpool defence since his move from the Saint Mary’s for a huge fee of £75million whilst also helping the Reds reach the final of the UEFA Champions League where they lost to eventual winners Real Madrid in Kiev.
Klopp insists he always knew the 27-year-old would have a huge impact and positive at the club, and can help the team in their hunt for silverware.
“From the first second, he was brilliant,” he said, according to FourFourTwo.
“I knew long before he signed the contract that Virgil would be outstanding as a player. His mix of both playing ability and leadership quality makes him outstanding.”
