Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus urged the club to make an attempt at signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig

The 22-year-old forward is highly-rated in German football and has started the 2018/19 Bundesliga campaign with eight goals in Leipzig’s 13 games.

Werner is out of contract with Leipzig in June 2020 and Matthaus is hoping Bayern take the opportunity to sign him.

The 1990 World Cup winner feels that Werner’s versatility will come in useful for Bayern as an all-round striker.

“Timo would fit in perfectly with Bayern München. They must have put out some feelers on him,” Matthaus wrote on Sky.

“Everything else would be very negligent, and that would mean that they wouldn’t have done their homework again in München.

“Timo can play at almost every offensive position. He brings a lot of pace and can shine on the wing, up top and as a secondary striker. He’s an all-round striker.”

“Bayern always want to have the best German internationals in their team, and Timo Werner is clearly one of them.

“If Bayern manages to sign him, the deal will go beyond the limits of any transfer in the Bundesliga.”

Bayern will host Nuernberg at the Allianz Arena on Saturday in the Bundesliga.
