A representative of Mauro Icardi’s revealed he nearly signed for Napoli during his early days at Inter Milan

After graduating Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Icardi left for Sampdoria in 2011 before sealing a transfer to Inter two years later.

But Icardi’s start to life at the San Siro was hampered by injuries which saw him slip down the Inter pecking order before finally returning to first-team action in February 2014.

Now Ulysses Savini, a member of his entourage, revealed just how close Icardi came to ending his stay at Inter.

“He was very close to a move to Napoli,” said Savini, according to Calcio Mercato.

“At that time Inter didn’t even have a replacement and doubted Napoli would go so far in the negotiations.”

Savini also gave his views on whether the Serie A is set to have another dominant year by Juventus.

“I think Juventus is strong, but not invincible,” he said.

“Napoli must continue to win them all, hoping that Juventus will fall. I doubt statistically Juventus can win them all.”

Inter will face Juventus on Friday in the Serie A.
