Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has urged the club to retain faith in Paul Pogba ahead of tonight’s game against Arsenal
The France international continues to be on the receiving end of a lot of critical comments following his performance in United’s 2-2 draw at Southampton on Saturday.
Pogba failed to provide United much options up front and lost possession of the ball on a number of different occasions.
But Hargreaves insists manager Jose Mourinho should keep Pogba in his starting line-up.
“He’s their best midfield player, he should start, regardless of what’s going on behind the scenes,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.
“As much as he and the team are struggling, they need him because he’s their best player.
“I don’t understand the benefit of having him on the bench.”
The ex-Bayern Munich star concedes Pogba was poor at St Mary’s along with everyone else in the United squad.
“Pogba’s display against Southampton along with everyone else was poor,” added Hargreaves.
“When Pogba plays poorly it’s when he takes too many touches. There was frustration on his part and he made some poor decisions.”
