Mateo Kovacic’s future has been handed a new twist with Real Madrid reportedly planning to sell him

The 24-year-old midfielder is currently on a season-long loan deal at Chelsea after struggling for regular opportunities at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Kovacic has since established himself as a key member of the Chelsea team with 17 appearances made in all competitions this term.

Now AS claim that Chelsea are keen to retain Kovacic by signing him on a permanent deal in next summer’s transfer window.

The report adds that Real are keen to rid themselves of the Croatian due to his behaviour during the summer, where he tried to force an exit, and are open to all offers.

However, in an interview last month, Kovacic refused to discuss his Chelsea future beyond the end of the season and stated his plan to remain focused on the present.

“This is not the time to talk about anything other than playing and enjoying,” said Kovacic.

“I don’t want to think about what will happen and do want to be happy doing what I like, which is to play football every week.”

Tottenham are another club who have been linked with a surprise move for Kovacic.
