Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that the team’s defensive duo of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling both played with injuries against Arsenal.

Mourinho lamented the pair were tired towards the end of the encounter. The former Chelsea boss was asked whether he felt under attack as Arsenal mounted pressure but rejected that theory.

“No. Not under siege, not at all,” Mourinho said, according to Manchester Evening News.

“I feel that is a moment where, for example, we played against the team that is at the top of their season, in the top of their moment where everything goes well for them, I think that’s clearly a team in a high against a team that has so many problems, and the top of these problems, during football matches we shoot outselves.”

“Today we had a very, very good start, I think everybody was expecting a good start, 1-0 for us. We score [David de Gea’s error for Shkodran Mustafi’s opener], 1-0 for them. In the second-half, in the best moment of our team, where Arsenal was clearly trying to stop the game, get one injury here, get one injury there, they were trying to control the game and to reduce the intensity of the game, we score the second goal for them and then is again 2-1. So difficult.”

“But the reality is in the last four matches we didn’t lose, bad results, yes, apart from Young Boys, the three draws were three bad results. But we did not lose. And before that we lost against Manchester City, everybody loses, not just us. And then before that we had a period where we were playing in our limits which is sometimes people don’t understand, where we play in our limits.”
