Director of football Emilio Butragueño is convinced that Vinicius Junior has the required personality to become a success at Real Madrid
The teenage forward scored his sixth goal for Los Blancos in the first leg of their 3-0 Copa del Rey last-16 win at CD Leganes on Wednesday night.
After initially struggling to break into the senior team under former coach Julen Loptegui, Vinicius has since thrived upon Santiago Solari’s promotion from the Castilla side.
Brazil great Cafu recently even suggested that the 18-year-old could be the man that ends up filling the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, who joined Juventus in a €112m deal last summer.
Now Butragueño is the latest to heap praise on Vinicius.
“To play like this in this stadium you have to have personality, especially when you’re a striker,” Butragueño told beIN Sports on Twitter.
“We must not forget that he is 18 years old.”
Despite winning the first leg 3-0, Butragueño is wary of another repeat of what happened against Leganes in the Copa del Rey last season.
“The 3-0 [win] is a great result for a tie, we will not deny it, but in football, everything can happen and nothing is final,” he added.
“We will have to make a good game in the return to qualify.”
The second leg between Leganes and Real Madrid will be played at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on January 16.
