Athletic Bilbao have announced they’ve reached an agreement to re-sign Ibai Gomez from Deportivo Alaves

The Spanish winger played for his hometown club between 2010 to 2016, where he managed 17 goals and 23 assists in 145 appearances and won the Copa del Rey.

But Gomez elected to terminate his contract with Athletic in favour of signing a three-year deal at Alaves, where he has spent the last two and a half years at.

The 29-year-old has played a key part in Alaves’ surprising start in La Liga this season by starting 17 of their 18 games with the club up in fourth-place and ahead of Real Madrid.

But it appears that the prospect of going home was too good to ignore for Gomez, who has signed a three-year contract at Athletic.

“Athletic Club and Deportivo Alaves have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Ibai Gomez to our entity,” read a statement on the club website.
