After turning down a move to Arsenal, former Real Madrid defender, Pepe has been signed by Porto.

Pepe is excited to have returned to his former club, where he believes it is where he learned so much to compete with central defenders at Real Madrid.

“For all the players who arrived at Real Madrid, for all the center-backs, it was a graveyard for center-backs,” he said in an interview with Porto’s media channels as quoted by Marca.

“None of them made it.

“But Porto prepared me for this and I was there for 10 years.

“There were many great center-backs who came, with big names, but they couldn’t stick like I did.”

The move back to Porto sees the player back on the same team as Iker Casillas.

“I’m very happy,” he said of the reunion.

“It might be that this had an influence on the decision.

“When I got here I asked him if he speaks Portuguese, like when he asked me if I spoke Spanish when I arrived at Real Madrid.

“He told me that he understands it, but that he’s still embarrassed.

“I told him he’s better than I was [at Spanish].”
