Fiorentina Coach Stefano Pioli is aiming to field a strong line-up to win” the Coppa Italia clash with Torino, which could include Luis Muriel.
Pioli’s men will trade tackles with Torino at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in the round of 16 on Sunday before taking on Sampdoria in Serie A next weekend.
“The Coppa Italia is an important trophy and an objective for all the teams who enter at this stage. We haven’t had a favourable draw in getting Torino, so I will use the best line-up I have in order to win,” said the Coach in his Press conference via Football Italia.
“Torino are physical and aggressive, which makes this a difficult match. In terms of quality, the two teams are evenly matched. We need to show character and control the ball.”
Muriel could make his competitive debut after arriving from Sevilla, having scored a hat-trick in a friendly against a local Maltese side.
“My idea was to improve the squad and Luis does improve us. He has quality, talent, can create a goal from nothing and that is a situation we’ve been lacking.
“We will continue to play with three strikers, then the positions could vary depending on the circumstances and the opponents. Having Muriel does not mean not using Giovanni Simeone, as they can either play together or alternate.
“In a similar vein, if we find a midfielder who can improve the squad, then we will go for him, but not sign a player just for the sake of increasing the numbers.
“The team is working well, it’s just disappointing that the results did not reflect their work.”
