Watford Captain Troy Deeney has been charged by the Football Association following his post-match comments about referee David Coote after his side’s 3-3 draw at Bournemouth.

Deeney made critical remarks about the performance of referee David Coote while answering questions from a journalist on TV after the game and the FA have now taken a decision to caution the striker.

Deeney suggested the referee had “bottled” big decisions which led to the final result of the Match.

The striker was asked by the FA to explain his comments has now been charged.

The decision was announced in a tweet by the FA Spokesperson:

“Troy Deeney has been charged following post-match media comments he made about the appointed match referee for Watford’s game against Bournemouth on 2 January 2019. He has until 18:00 on 15 January 2019 to respond to the charge.”

Watford have not released any official statement on the matter.
