Alexis Sanchez’s contract with Arsenal is set to expire next summer and the forward’s situation at the club is currently unclear.
Manchester City pushed for a move until the dying hours of the transfer window, in the hope that they will be able to bring the Chilean to Etihad. However, Arsenal did not allow their star player to go for £60m and might have to settle for much less in January.
Alexis Sanchez will be free to negotiate with any foreign club from the start of next year and sign on a free next summer, as he will enter the last 6 months of his contract. However, Manchester City want to make sure that they will not loose the player that they have chased for most of the summer and are ready to pay £20m for his services, according to The Sun.
Pep Guardiola insisted to be reunited with his former player this summer and tried everything to sign Alexis for Manchester City. Arsenal are thought to have even accepted a £60m late bid for him, but the move was depending on the Gunners’ capability to sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco as a replacement. The French winger refused to move to Arsenal and therefore the deal taking Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City fell through.
