Breaking: Ousmane Dembele out for up to four months.

Barcelona’s record signing will be out for up to four months with a ruptured tendon in his left thigh.

Update: Barcelona released a new statement regarding the extent of Dembele’s injury: “The player will have surgical treatment by Dr. Sakari Orava next week in Finland. He will be out for between three-and-a-half and four months.”

Ousmane Dembele was given his full debut in La Liga for Barcelona against Getafe, but he only lasted 23 minutes on the pitch. The French forward looked to have settled in to his new surroundings, managing to provide an assist for Luis Suarez during his first minutes for the Catalans, when he came from the bench against Espanyol.

Dembele was sent on the pitch from the first minute of the match against Getafe, but he came off limping after 23 minutes, accusing a hamstring injury. The club’s initial statement was that “more tests are needed to find out the extent of the injury.”

Ernesto Valverde looked worried at the press conference after the match the Catalans won 2-1, saying that he is expecting Dembele to be out of action for “a few weeks.” The most expensive transfer in the history of Barcelona adjusted well to his new team and put on a good performance in the Champions League match against Juventus. But the 20-year-old will now be out of actions and Barcelona will have to look for solutions in the attack. Deulofeu, who replaced Dembele on Saturday, will most probably take the Frenchman’s place in the starting line-up for the next weeks.

The match was a good opportunity for Paulinho to prove his contesters wrong. The Brazilian scored the winning goal of the Catalans and he also looks as if he has settled in and is ready to take a more important role in the squad.

With last night’s victory, Barcelona are now top of the La Liga table, seven points clear of rivals Real Madrid, who will play Real Sociedad tonight.
