The Gunners have reportedly decided Mesut Ozil’s price if they were to allow the player to leave in January.
The German playmaker’s deal with Arsenal is set to expire next summer and there are indications that he won’t be renewing his contract. Therefore, the Gunners are left with no choice than to cash in on the player in January rather than to lose him for free six months later.
According to Daily Star, Arsenal will demand £30m for Mesut Ozil in January. Manchester United is currently the most likely destination for the German. Jose Mourinho expressed his admiration for the 29-year-old, having managed him at Santiago Bernabeu.
Now Mourinho is willing to pay the price to be reunited with his former player. Signing Ozil in January would allow Manchester United to add him to the Champions League registered squad for the knock-out stages of the competition.
In addition to Ozil, Arsenal have a similar situation with Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean has made it publicly known that he won’t sign a new deal at Emirates and the Gunners will most probably look to cash in on him too.
According to the same report, Arsenal will be looking for a similar £30m fee for Sanchez in January, if Manchester City will renew their interest in the player. However, Arsene Wenger would much rather offer Alexis Sanchez to PSG, in a potential swap deal including Julian Draxler.
Arsenal legend, Lee Dixon, spoke about the situation of the two players, saying that the pair would not have lasted at the club during his days: “We’d have just shown them the door. If you don’t want to play, then go. That’s not changed.
If a player doesn’t want to stay somewhere then you will be ousted from the environment and dressing room pretty quickly.
Players work out whether you want to be there or not, and certainly fans do when they see your performances on the pitch.”
