Cantona: United’s next No.7 should be Pastore

The former iconic Manchester United player Eric Cantona believes the Red Devils should aim for the signature of Javier Pastore instead of Antoine Griezmann

Jose Mourinho should be looking for United’s next No.7, PSG’s playmaker, instead of adding another forward like Antoine Griezmann, according to the Frenchman.

Despite the efforts made by United over the summer, Griezmann stayed in Madrid and signed a new contract with Atleti.

However, speculations continue to rumble on as the French striker has recently admitted he could make a move towards Manchester at some point in time.

Even though he would be welcome by Mourinho, United’s former number 7 doesn’t think it’s a good idea of signing him when you can go for Javier Pastore.

“I love Pastore. He plays for Paris, but he doesn’t play in the team. They have two great players – Pastore and [Hatem] Ben Arfa and neither of them play,” Cantona told FullTimeDEVILS on their YouTube channel.

When asked whether Griezmann would also be a good move for them, the ex-Devil replied: “Yes, why not? But Pastore is very special.”

“Pastore will surprise you every time. Every time he touches the ball he surprises you – he gives the ball to someone no-one had seen before. He surprises all the fans.”

“I think he is a great player. He played for Argentina, which is a great country – but he doesn’t play for Paris, which is a small club,” he added.

Pastore has been with Paris Saint-Germain since 2011, and he has appeared in 236 games for the club, but hasn’t been granted a lot of play time in recent years.

Newer signings of the French club such as Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria, Julian Draxler or Neymar has made it hard for the Argentine to step on the pitch.

The midfielder has been linked with other Premier League clubs as well, but no one knows what the future holds for him at this point.
