Arsenal’s Lucas Perez appears to be on the verge of joining Genoa this summer with the club president, Enrico Preziosi, claiming they are now close to signing an “extraordinary” striker
The Serie A side has been linked with a move for the Deportivo de la Coruna loanee for a while now and is believed to keen to sign a proven goalscorer for next term.
Genoa has only scored 32 goals in 37 Serie A games with their top scorer being Italian forward Gianluca Lapadula on a mere six goals in all competitions.
After failing to make an impact at Arsenal, Perez returned to Deportivo for a second spell but was unable to repeat his previous feats at the club with only seven goals in his 34 appearances as they succumbed to relegation.
The 29-year-old is in desperate need of a career revival and a move to Genoa may benefit him like it did with Iago Falque and Diego Perotti.
“We’re looking at two wide forwards, but two top ones: we’ve enjoyed Perotti and Iago Falque in the past,” said Preziosi, as stated on Football-Italia.
“We want players of their level and something more. Foreigners or Italians? We’ll see, Falque and Perotti were foreigners, but being foreign doesn’t count for anything when it comes to certain players.
“For others, there’s a need for adaptation, but for those who play football in a certain way, they’re able to prove themselves right away.
“We have two players in mind, one we’ve already done a deal for. As for the other, he can visit next week and is an extraordinary player.”
