The Colombian arrived from Ajax last summer for the club record fee of 38 million pounds and didn’t take long before he fitted into the team.
Jan Vertonghen has admitted Davinson Sanchez surprised him in his first season at Tottenham, even though Vertonghen had already done his research on the new teammate upon his arrival.
“When the rumours were there [about him joining] I spoke to a couple of people at Ajax that I know there and they were very positive about him, a great guy and a great player,” Vertonghen said, according to football.london.
“So when he arrived I knew a bit what to expect but even then he surprised me a lot. I still remember his debut, I think it was away at Everton, how well he did, how impressive he was. No doubt, no nerves, just like he started playing and he had the same level over the season and it was an unbelievable level.”
“It’s a big compliment to him. I came here when I was 25 and it was hard. He does it when he’s 21 and with only one season in Europe in his legs. He’s unbelievable and I’ve been very impressed with him,” Vertonghen went on to add.
