Jose Mourinho has been reportedly told by Manchester United to focus on developing the current members of his squad, claims the Daily Mirror

The Portuguese coach has been left frustrated this summer after United failed to make a signing during the latter stages of the transfer market, despite Mourinho indicating that he wanted reinforcements.

A new centre-back had been at the top of Mourinho’s list, but the United only made available money for who they believed were the “right” players.

Apparently, the club’s hierarchy did not want to pay a massive amount for players who had no resale value or who could only hold down a place in the starting line-up on a short-term basis.

Now Mourinho has been allegedly instructed to get the most out of his current squad by the board, as well as promoting young talent from United’s academy.

The Red Devils have noted the progress that has been made by neighbours Manchester City and now want to achieve similar results.
