After 22 days, 20 teams have been eliminated and only four remain. From these four two will play the 2019 AFC Asian Cup Final but only one will be crowned champion.
The end of the 2019 edition of the AFC Asian Cup is near.
The Final will be played on February 1st at Zayed Sports City in the United Arab Emirates capital of Abu Dhabi.
But before, the remaining four teams, out of 24, will battle each other on Monday and Tuesday who decide who will be crowned champions.
After Australia’s elimination, the AFC will have a new champion crowned in just a few days.
Tomorrow at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, Iran will take on Japan in the first Semifinal.
Hosts the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will play against Qatar on Tuesday in the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Iran won the AFC Asian Cup back-to-back-to-back in 1968, 1972 and 1976. But since then have yet to make it to the Final match.
The Persians have now a better result than on the last three editions, where they only advanced to the Quarterfinals before being eliminated.
Rivals Japan have been successful in the last 30 years, winning the title on four occasions, including in the 2011 edition in Qatar.
Four years ago the Samurai Blue reached the Quarterfinals before being kicked out by the United Arab Emirates 5-4 on penalty kicks.
On the other hand, the United Arab Emirates have reached the Final once, in 1996 when they were beaten by Saudi Arabia 4-2 on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw on regular time.
The UAE went all the way to the Semifinals in the last edition, as they took Third Place.
And the Qatar national team is making history here, as they reached the Semifinals for the first time in their history.
The Qatari’s best results wherein 1984 and 1988 where they were fifth place out of ten nations.
