The Foxes have steamrolled opposition in the Premier League this season, and deserve to finish above Manchester City in 2019/20 campaign.
Liverpool have the Premier League title in their grasp. Only a titanic capitulation will result in their English top flight title drought to continue. It looks unlikely to say the least.
Pep Guardiola has already conceded defeat in the title race. While Brendan Rodgers will be happy with a top four outcome. As it stands, the second place is up for grabs. Both Manchester City and Leicester City are fighting for it. And the fight will go down the wire.
Injuries at the Etihad
With the Foxes stuttering over the weekend, Manchester City has opened up a three-point gap. Guardiola’s charges have been impressive of late but do not have enough in the tank. It was evident in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
Across the pitch, the Citizens have been marred by injuries to first team members. Which has impacted their domestic performances. John Stones was culpable in Zaha’s equalizer, but after an injury plagued season it is expected. Serio Aguero continues to score but is still not 100 percent.
Impact of Champions League
Leicester City do not have European competition to think about. Their sole focus is a better standing in the Premier League and they are primed for it. The same cannot be said of Manchester City.
Guardiola has plenty on his plate. Manchester City are fighting on all front, and can still win three of the remaining cup competitions they are involved in. The Champions League is their priority.
Success in Europe will overshadow their troubles in Premier League. And also mark their legacy. Guardiola is well versed with the nuances of a winning season and will focus his side’s energies appropriately.
Confident in their style
Manchester City are in the semi-final of EFL Cup, while also fighting for Champions League and FA Cup glory. Rogers’ men have less distractions. and are focused. And are comfortable in their playing style.
While the Citizens have floundered in matches, unable to win express themselves. The Foxes do not have these concerns. They are comfortable with the different tactics Rodgers has laid out for them, which makes the most of their abilities.
Not only does Leicester has skillful players which can break defenses, they are sturdy at the back themselves. They have conceded four less goals thank City, a big feat considering they conceded 7 in two games to Guardiola and Klopp’s men.
