English top flight football clubs got a respite from fixture congestion as focus shifted from Premier League action to pursuit of FA Cup glory.
The break-next speed of fixtures continued for a select Premier League sides over the weekend. The focus shifted away from Liverpool taking the English crown and rested on the FA Cup.
Eight Premier League sides were involved in the FA Cup quarter-finals with only one fixture extending into extra time. There were wins for Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City, which sets up exciting matchups in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals will see Pep Guardiola take on former protegee Mikel Arteta in battle for supremacy of London and Manchester. While, Frank Lampard will hope his in-form Chelsea can get over the line on the road against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s efficient Manchester United.
Before we focus too much on which side will make it to Wembley Stadium, it will be remiss to get over the quarter-finals this quickly. There were some great performances and we highlight three players who stood out.
