After Rivaldo’s bold claim that Lionel Messi could join Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, it’s time to see how this new ‘superhero team-up’ could look.
The unthinkable in a Ronaldo and Messi team-up for Juventus could happen, at least that’s what Rivaldo says anyway.
This comes in light of the troubling situation at Barcelona, who are in danger of losing Messi. Reports in Spain claim the Argentine is considering a shock exit. Should this be true, it will be the first time he’ll play outside Camp Nou in his club career.
So, where next for the six-time Ballon d’Or winner?
We have clubs from his homeland, like boyhood side Newell’s Old Boys, in the running. While staying in Europe with PSG or some other side cannot be ruled out…for now at least.
But Rivaldo has shared an interesting theory in his latest post for Betfair. He suggested that plans are already being hatched to unite Ronaldo and Messi in Turin, the ultimate dream for fans.
“With all this speculation, I believe that some agents are already dreaming about a Messi-Ronaldo double at Juventus and how big it will be around the globe,” said Rivaldo.
“If that happened there would be a world ‘boom’, and I believe Juventus would quickly recover any investment on the Argentinian thanks to the boost they would get from visibility and marketing.
“It would be historical to see both playing together and I’m sure many Juve sponsors would love to help financially. So, it’s also a possibility for Messi.
“If there are rumours about his exit, then of course, every club will be thinking about how they can sign him.
“That said, the two best players in the world for the past 10 years playing at the same club would be massive.”
How could they line-up?
Seeing arguably two of the greatest players in history would be a mouth-watering prospect for anyone.
The pair have been the ruling forces in world football for a long time, shattering countless records. A combined total of 11 Ballon d’Ors and 1,428 goals doesn’t even sum it up.
Both Ronaldo and Messi together would surely assure Juventus of European domination in the upcoming years. But how would they line up together?
Maurizio Sarri prefers a 4-3-3 formation, so this could be the most likely scenario. Ronaldo and Messi take up their preferred roles down the flanks, leaving Paulo Dybala or Gonzalo Higuain in a central role.
Arthur Melo, who will swap Barcelona for Juventus this summer himself, also features.
Sarri has recently praised Ronaldo and Dybala’s improved partnership, so why not play them both as centre-forwards? Messi could support them with assists from behind.
This is our most daring one, four attackers in one formation! Just think of how many goals that could mean?!
We’ve “recalled” Higuain into the line-up to head the attack, with Ronaldo and Messi back on the flanks. Dybala operates as an attacking midfielder.
Not sure it would work? Ronaldo thinks so!
Some football fans argue that Ronaldo and Messi are incompatible due to their different styles. They say it could even HINDER the team itself.
During an interview with France Football in 2016, however, Ronaldo revealed it would work, especially for his sake.
The Real Madrid legend claimed he would win more Ballon d’Or awards than Messi if they were in the same team!
“It would be interesting to see both of us in the same team,” said Cristiano via Fox Sports.
“I think great players should play together. So if we were in the same team, I think I would have more [Ballon d’Or awards] than him, but he wouldn’t be far off.”
