None of us are really sure why Arsenal even signed Chamakh in the first place.

The striker arrived in the summer of 2010 on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux hoping to become Wenger’s latest star man. However, that was nothing more than a mere dream.

While Chamakh got off to a decent start, he quickly fell out of favour as Robin van Persie took over the mantle of the Gunners’ chief goalscorer.

Eventually, Chamakh left for West Ham on loan in January 2013 before he completed a permanent transfer to Crystal Palace eight months later.

But the 35-year-old failed to make his mark at Selhurst Park or during a brief stint with Cardiff City. Therefore, he retired last May following his exit from the Welsh capital in 2016.
