Imanol Agirretxe has played for the last 13 years with the Spanish La Liga club, but he announced today he will retire from playing
For many footballers having the chance to play all their life with a club is an impossible dream.
But for striker Imanol Agirretxe this dream came true with Real Sociedad de San in the Spanish top flight division.
And after 13 consecutive years playing with the club, with a small loan to Castellón in 2007, the forward feels this is his last.
“Today is a great day for me. I had to take a decision from which I’m very confident and tranquil,” he told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“This came after my last injury when I felt it was the best moment to take a decision and I have decided to put an end [to my career].”
“I have only dressed in the Real jersey from my first to the last match; I have defended its shield and the color that I always wanted to defend, I’m privileged,” he added.
“To me, being a Real player has been the best. From the first day I put on the Real jersey I changed from being a footballer to be a Real player and this has made me very happy.
