An emotional Lucas Moura admits tears have been pouring out of his eyes every time he sees a replay of his hat-trick in Tottenham’s comeback victory over Ajax.
Spurs were in deep trouble in Amsterdam on Wednesday after two first-half goals put Ajax 3-0 ahead on aggregate before Lucas superbly rose to the rescue.
The Brazilian winger scored twice inside space of just four minutes to put Spurs back level in the second half of the return leg.
Lucas then struck a dramatic 96th-minute winner to send Mauricio Pochettino’s side through to the final on away goals after finishing 3-3 on aggregate.
And, even four days later, he still gets caught up in emotion when watching his feats.
“I think that I’m dreaming,” Lucas told the club’s website.
“It was an unbelievable day. I’m very happy, very proud. I always say that when you believe and when you work hard, you receive good things and this group and this team deserves it.”
Lucas added: “I believed that it was possible to win the game and to go to the final, but I couldn’t believe that I would score three goals and the third one in the last seconds. It was perfect.
“I’ve watched the game back. Every time that I watch the video I cry because it’s so emotional. Every player wanted to have this moment, to live this moment, I am so happy and we need to enjoy it.
“That’s what football does with everyone. That’s why football is so amazing. I love football. It’s so emotional, everyone loves football. Moments like this we need to keep for life.”
Lucas has managed 15 goals and two assists in 47 appearances across all competitions this season.
The 26-year-old will be looking to continue his fine run of form in Spurs’ final Premier League game of the season against Everton on Sunday at home.
Afterwards, Lucas and Spurs will then head out to Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano to take on Liverpool in the Champions League final on June 1.
