A weak Barcelona crashes in Los Carmenes vs Granada

With an early goal from Azeez and a penalty from Badillo, Granada got a valuable victory against a weak FC Barcelona in Los Carmenes.

As we go through the middle of a Real Madrid crisis, FC Barcelona also went through hell in Granada on Saturday.

The Catalan club was supposed to have its stellar attacking trio on the pitch for the first time, but Ernesto Valverde clearly doesn’t think Messi is ready for a full 90 minutes.

The type of calf injury that Leo suffered is not easy to deal with, it needs to have a proper process of recovery.

With this in mind, Valverde lined up the players he believed could help Barcelona win at Los Carmenes.

This stadium has proven to be a complicated ground for the Catalan club in previous seasons.

Granada in fact, is arguably one of the most competitive clubs in this start of La Liga.

They have only lost once in La Liga this season against Sevilla, but their last two games were away victories against Espanyol and Celta de Vigo.

This means that FC Barcelona was about to face one of the most difficult opponents in the competition right now, and they proved it from the very first minute of the match.

Right after kick-off, Junior Firpo proved he isn’t ready for commitments like this one after making a serious mistake in the back that allowed Granada to score the first goal.

Nigerian midfielder Ramon Azeez was the man who scored that initial goal.

After suffering this first setback in the game, FC Barcelona simply wasn’t able to come back from the result.

The Granada players grew stronger in their own ground and they also played dangerously close to what the rule book permitted.

Lionel Messi watched how his teammates weren’t able to get back from this initial goal against them, they didn’t take a single shot on goal before half time.

When the second half came, it was evident that Valverde would make some important modifications to the lineup.

Lionel Messi and Ansu Fati came on the pitch immediately to replace Junior Firpo and Carles Perez.

However, their inclusion in the game didn’t really change anything.

This Granada squad was one of the most unplayable teams that Barcelona has faced in years, and the fans supporting them was also an added undesired pressure.

La Liga and Spanish FA argument could hurt Barca

Ernesto Valverde fears that the disagreement between the Spanish Football Association and La Liga could negatively impact his Barcelona side. The Barcelona manager is expressing...

Lionel Messi is clearly not in his best moment, which means that Barcelona won’t function as they did last season because they don’t have their best player in good form.

Ansu Fati tried to do what he does best from the left flank, but he also wasn’t able to penetrate the harsh Granada defensive line.

Vidal commits the penalty.

Even though Barcelona still struggled to get closer to the goalkeeper, they still remained hopeful for that equalizing goal that would get them back in the game.

But they weren’t expecting another unwanted resolution as they did during the 66th minute.

Arturo Vidal struck the ball with his hand inside the box and a penalty was awarded for Granada.

Vadillo was the man who scored the penalty and sealed the final 2-0 victory for Granada against FC Barcelona.

This defeat seals three away results that jeopardize FC Barcelona’s chances to fight for titles this season, we are counting the ones from Bilbao and Dortmund.

The most alarming part of this new loss for Barcelona is that none of the transfers are working right now.

Frenkie de Jong is the only player who has delivered acceptable results so far, but Antoine Griezmann and Junior Firpo were especially terrible this evening in Granada.

Fortunately for them, none of the title contenders for La Liga are having a great start of the season and they still have some time to recover lost ground.

Lionel Messi needs more time to get back to fitness, and there are other players who need to take a step forward when Leo isn’t at his best.
