Aaron Wan-Bissaka, yet another member of England’s talented generation

Let’s talk about Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, one of the best right backs in English football this season.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has established himself as one of the best young stars in the Premier League since his breakthrough into the Crystal Palace team last season.

He is another member of England’s talented generation emerging on the big scene, alongside Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Declan Rice.

The right-back is of Congolese descent and appeared for the DR Congo U-20 team in a friendly game back in 2015. However, he remained eligible to represent England as well, making his debut for the Young Lions (the U-21 side) in September 2018.

Born in London on 26 November 1997, Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined the Crystal Palace youth academy at the age of 11. He started out as a winger, working his way up to the Eagles’ first team. His defensive capabilities were evident though and that’s why Palace boss Roy Hodgson decided to deploy him to right-back.

Wan-Bissaka made his professional debut against Tottenham on February 25, last year. He featured in all four games in March, winning the club’s Player of the Month award with 65% of the supporters’ votes.

The right-back was voted Crystal Palace’s Young Player of the Year at the end of the 2017-18 campaign and became a regular in Roy Hodgson’s starting eleven at the start of the current season, missing only three games in the Premier League.

Coady wants to impress Wolves’ fans in Asia

The Wolverhampton Wanderers hope they can gain momentum ahead of their UEFA Europa League qualifying match next week.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a classic full-back who defends tightly. He is the best tackler in the top five European leagues, having made a total of 124 successful tackles this season. The youngster has also noted 82 interceptions and 76 blocks – pretty good numbers for a 21-year old who is playing his first full season in one of the most challenging leagues in the world.

What makes it even more impressive is the fact that Wan-Bissaka has never been dribbled past more than once in a single game during the 2018-19 campaign, and he has faced some of Premier Leagues’ best left wingers in the likes of Eden Hazard, Sadio Mane, and Leroy Sane.

He was named the club’s Player of the Month for August, September, October, and March and also won the Crystal Palace F.C. Player of the Year award for 2019 thanks to his outstanding performances.

The question now is whether he is ready to step up to another level. Manchester United are seriously interested in the 21-year old right back, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to rebuild his squad in the next summer.
