Paris Saint-Germain new boy Abdou Diallo has praised Kylian Mbappe’s development and believes he’s become a “real killer” in front of goal.
Since leaving AS Monaco for PSG in 2017, Mbappe has scored a staggering 62 goals in 89 appearances. He’s also proved to be a team player, with 33 assists made for his Parisians team-mates.
These impressive stats have gone a long way in helping PSG claim back-to-back Ligue 1 crowns. They even finished 16 points above their nearest challengers Lille OSC last season.
A big part of that, of course, came down to Mbappe’s fine form as the 20-year-old bagged a league-best of 33 goals in just 29 games.
And the World Cup winner’s incredible rate of development has left even his former Monaco team-mate Diallo surprised.
“He grew up, he gained a bit of weight,” said Diallo, according to Fox Sports.
“But he is the same. Of course, he is more mature. Now, we can talk about more things with him.
“When I was in Monaco, he was very, very young. But he is still the same.
“In the game, he is becoming a real killer. He didn’t have those qualities when he left Monaco, even if he scored many goals for Monaco. Now, he is very accurate.”
Diallo, who joined PSG from Borussia Dortmund this summer for €32m, played the full 90 minutes in PSG’s 3-0 win at Nimes last week for their Ligue 1 opener.
Although it was Mbappe again who grabbed the headlines after doubling PSG’s lead following Edinson Cavani’s penalty before setting up Angel Di Maria for the third goal.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will certainly be hoping the French youngster can keep the form up for tonight’s trip to Rennes. With Neymar absent again amid Barcelona and Real Madrid interest, Mbappe’s importance for PSG is greater than ever.
The French champions’ game at Roazhon Park will begin at 21:00 (CET).
