Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. were unable to weather the storm as AC Milan secured the three points after being two goals behind.
Juventus suffered their fourth defeat of the season against AC Milan. The San Siro was empty but the attendance in front of television screens must have been high.
Stefano Pioli has rejuvenated Milan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return has improved confidence but no one would have hoped such a performance. Especially after Juventus raced ahead to a two-goal lead in the second half.
Adrian Rabiot troubled the scorers with his first goal for the Old Lady. The troubled French midfielder ran half the pitch, under constant pressure from Rossoneri defenders and slotted into the top right corner to start the proceedings.
Five minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo would soon make it 2-0. The Portuguese forward scored in his fifth successive match, which should have been enough to get over the line. But it was not to be.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic would start the comeback after the hour mark. He slotted home the spot after Leonardo Bonucci had handled the ball. The towering Swede would come off the pitch with the score at 3-2 six minutes later.
AC Milan’s next eighteen minutes would be the worst for Juventus under Maurizio Sarri. By the 80th minute, Ante Rebic would make it 4-2 and the game was done and dusted.
Pioli’s Milan have revealed glaring issues with the Old Lady. Juventus are not the all-conquering side of yester years. They are still acclimatizing to their roles under Sarri.
Midfield in disarray
Eden Hazard did not like it under Sarri but enjoyed the fruits of labor by the season’s end. Juve have the Scudetto in their grasp but this is not their sole contention.
They have been found wanting against average squads who like to run with the ball. They are missing a holding midfielder who can disrupt the opposition.
Moreover, they need a midfielder who can spray the ball to their talented forwards. Jorginho should be arriving at the Allianz Stadium but it is Arthur Melo who is making his way to Turin.
Juventus have been exposed by AC Milan. It can be a one off incident but if a repeat is to be avoided, they need to seriously review the structure of their roster.
