Lautaro Martinez’s agent announced that the Argentine is ready to make his comeback for Inter Milan ahead of Sunday’s trip to Frosinone.
The 21-year-old striker hasn’t played for Inter since their critical 3-2 derby win over AC Milan three weeks ago due to a thigh problem he sustained on international duty for Argentina.
Martinez’s absence has coincided with the return of Mauro Icardi, who’s started both of Inter’s Serie A matches since the end of the international break.
This new development has prompted concerns over Martinez’s future, despite only joining Inter last summer in a €22.7m deal from Argentine side Racing Club.
The youngster has impressed in the past few months while covering for the absent Icardi following Inter’s decision to strip him of the captaincy amid failed talks over a new contract.
But Martinez’s agent, Beto Yaque, is confident things will work out fine at the San Siro for his client.
“He’s better. He told me he’d recovered,” he told FC Inter News.
“He’s trained with the squad. Everything suggests he’s ready to play the next league game. Lautaro’s only thinking about playing, He keeps a low profile, but he’s fine. He’s happy.
“His goal against Milan was very important for him and the team. He feels loved by everyone, from his teammates to the fans, passing through everyone connected to the club.
“He notices it more each day. And, clearly, if he is happy, I am too. We’re calm about a new contract without a release clause.
“Lautaro’s a very young lad, an elite player. If Inter called us to talk about it, given they’ve always treated us well, we’re all for collaboration.”
As for Icardi’s contract saga at Inter, Yaque said: “I don’t want to enter specifics, also because we’re talking about personal circumstances that have nothing to do with me.
“That’s why I tell you that I’m only interested in seeing Lautaro play. I always believed in him. I know him very well. He just needed a run of games.
“Today he’s a starter and he deserves it. He gives everything for the club and his teammates.
“He wants to stay on this path by showing his worth and what he’s made of, while continuing to grow.”
Martinez has scored nine goals in his 29 appearances for Inter this season.
