Jordi Alba has backed manager Ernesto Valverde to remain at Barcelona after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Getafe at the Camp Nou.
Valverde, 55, has been heavily criticised for masterminding back to back remontandas in the Champions League following their 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.
The previous season saw the Catalan giants lose a 4-1 advantage over AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and there are question marks about his quality to bring European success to Camp Nou.
However, Spanish left-back Jordi Alba has thrown his support behind the embattled manager to remain at the club.
“We’re delighted with Valverde,” he said via Barcablaugranes.
“Before Anfield, we were the best team in the world and then one day after no one is worth anything, we’re old and we need to bring in replacements… I hope the boss continues. He’s given me life.”
Meanwhile, Valverde was asked about his future after the game and said he has not considered stepping down from his position.
The boss is on course to win a league and cup double for the second season in a row, but his achievements have been marred by the club’s embarrassing failures in Europe.
