USWNT star Alex Morgan gives her verdict on the Cristiano Ronaldo versus Lionel Messi debate.
Two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup winner Alex Morgan picks Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo as “the greatest footballer of all time”.
The USWNT star believes Messi is at least one level higher than any other player she’s watched playing football.
“I would have to say Messi,” the US co-captain said via Sportbible.
“He’s just so much better… He’s a level higher than any other player I watch. He’s a really exciting player to watch.”
Morgan returned to Europe this summer, joining Tottenham Hotspur from Orlando Pride.
The 31-year old-forward spent a few month at Lyon, winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League in the 2016-17 campaign.
Morgan was heavily criticized for her famous “tea” celebration, after scoring the winning goal in the World Cup semi-final against England.
She believes there are still double standards in sports and asked why the same weren’t upheld for Ronaldo and Simeone’s “cojones” celebration in the Champions League clash between Atletico Madrid and Juventus last year.
“You see men celebrating all around the world in big tournaments, grabbing their sacks or whatever it is,” Alex added.
“And when I look at sipping a cup of tea, I’m a little taken aback… You have to laugh about it, to see all the criticism.”
