German goalkeeper Alexander Nubel is tired of his role of the bench at Schalke 04 and wants an opportunity to show everyone what he’s capable of

The Germany U-21 international joined Schalke in 2016 from second division side SC Paderborn and has only made eight appearances altogether due to the fine form of the first-choice keeper and captain Ralf Fahrmann.

But Nubel got his chance on the big stage earlier this season by keeping a clean sheet in his Champions League debut at Galatasaray after Fahrmann withdrew with an adductor injury.

The fixture in Turkey was part of a six-match run that Nubel had in goal before Fahrmann returned and demoted the 22-year-old back on the bench.

‘Disappointed’ Lucien Favre still proud of Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre is proud of everything his side have achieved this season despite their near-miss in the Bundesliga title battle.

“I’ve been sitting on the bench for a few years now,” Nubel told Westline.

“Now, I want and have to play for a longer period of time – preferably week after week.

“For a year, fortunately, I have collected regular match practice in the under-21 national team, but of course, that’s different to playing in the Bundesliga. I want to show what I can do there too, but that’s difficult at Schalke.”

The young keeper added that he may go out on loan, but will first discuss his circumstances with his agent and Schalke.
