According to the latest issue of CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post, Ronaldo is the 25th best player in European football right now.

Luka Modric broke Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s duopoly for the Ballon d’Or gong in 2018. While Messi wrestled away the individual accolade from the Croatian, Ronaldo has seen his Italian adventures deemed a failure.

The race has become a one sided as Messi breaks scoring awards at his whims. Over the weekend, the Argentine equaled Ronaldo’s 35 La Liga hat-trick record. After a poor start to the season, he is back amongst the goals.

But Ronaldo is no where to be seen. He is struggling to score regularly for Juventus and it is being registered. In the 277th issue of CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post, the former Real Madrid forward jumped out of the top twenty players on the continent, and takes hold of number 25.

Settling in Turin

While the Portugal captain’s overall game play has improved and he has complemented the talents of Paolo Dybala, it is goals that he is known for. And it is on the basis of goals that the 34 year old will be held accountable for.

However, it seems that the algorithms have only looked at the surface and made their list from it. Ronaldo is evolving in Turin and it is visible for keen observers. He is maturing into a different player for the next phase of his career.

While he struggled to play alongside Dybala, the duo are thriving together. Both are amongst the goals. Ronaldo has 7 in Serie A from 12 appearances. The Argentine has four.

Moreover, with the national team Ronaldo has been in sensational form. He captained Portugal to the first ever UEFA Nations League at the expense of Netherlands. In their Euro 2020 qualification campaign, he hit the back of the net 11 times from a paltry 8 outings.

While his time in Italy has been questioned and a return to La Liga mooted, Ronaldo will be happy with his returns. He is proving himself in an other tough league, at a time players are looking to hang their boots.

Everyone has their own metrics, and Ronaldo has his. He knows his physical prowess more than anyone else, he has dedicated his life to it. He is overcoming his niggling injury issues, and is nearing match fitness.

Detractors beware, Cristiano Ronaldo is vengeful and full of fire. He is on his path of redemption and once again prove everyone wrong.
