Ali Daei is ready to congratulate the Portuguese phenomenon when he becomes the leading all-time international goalscorer.

Cristiano Ronaldo is Portugal’s greatest ever goalscorer, with his current international goal tally standing at 102.

The 35-year-old forward is the sole active footballer to have crossed the 100-goal milestone for a national team, and only the second one to do it in the history of the game after Iran’s Ali Daei.

Ronaldo has a knack for breaking old records and writing new ones, and what’s next up for grabs for him is Daei’s international goalscoring record.

He is only seven goals shy of overtaking the former Iranian forward as the all-time top scorer for a national team.

CR7 failed to reduce the gap in Saturday’s clash against France but will look to move closer to the record in the upcoming Nations League matchday 6 game against Croatia.

It is expected from the former Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Sporting Lisbon man to make the record his own, and Daei shares a similar opinion.

“Not at all, it would be a real honor for me if a player of his class and caliber could do it. Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players not only of this era, but ever. An absolute phenomenon,” the Iranian said in an interview with Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb.

“I would congratulate him directly, but first he has to get there. Cristiano Ronaldo is already at 102 goals with Portugal and will beat my record, I’m sure, but he still has seven goals to go.”
