Alisson Becker has won the UEFA Goalkeeper of the Season prize after helping Liverpool claim Champions League glory last season.
Alisson, who joined Liverpool last summer in a €72m deal from AS Roma, enjoyed a remarkable first season at Anfield.
The Reds turned to the Brazilian shot-stopper following Loris Karius’ struggles between the sticks in 2017/18. He didn’t disappoint either, with an impressive 21 clean sheets in his 38 Premier League appearances to claim the Golden Glove in his debut campaign.
Alisson’s consistency in goal also played a major role in the club’s improved defensive record. In fact, Liverpool finished with the league’s best record of just 22 goals conceded.
But the former Roma star’s biggest impact came in Europe, where Liverpool ended a seven-year drought for silverware by claiming a sixth Champions League title.
Alisson didn’t miss a minute of action and deservedly won UEFA’s Goalkeeper of the Season award by a milestone.
“If I knew Alisson was this good, I would have paid double,” said Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on UEFA.com.
Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon added: “Alisson is everything a modern goalkeeper needs to be. I have been watching him for some years now and am a big admirer. He is comfortable with the ball, he is an excellent shot-stopper and I see that he gives confidence to his defence.”
The European governing body announced that 32 club coaches and 55 journalists voted in the judging panel.
