Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker revealed how it saddened him seeing what happened to Lloris Karius at the Champions League final
The German made two major errors in last May’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev, which helped prevent Liverpool from winning a sixth European Cup.
There was simply no way back for Karius afterwards with manager Jurgen Klopp forking out £67m to sign Alisson from AS Roma.
The Brazil international quickly displaced Karius as the first-choice keeper at Anfield and he’s only conceded 10 goals in 21 Premier League games for Liverpool.
But Alisson admits that watching Karius struggle in one of club football’s biggest finals was not a nice sight for him.
“Even when my team scores after a big mistake from the opposition keeper, it’s a different feeling for me. I don’t celebrate it like any other goal,” Alisson told FourFourTwo.
“I know what goes through the mind of a goalkeeper in those kinds of moments. I was so sad to see what happened to Karius – it could have happened to anyone.”
Karius has since joined Turkish side Besiktas on loan, where he has made 13 appearances in the Super Lig this season.
