Alisson Becker revealed how Liverpool’s history proved to be a key reason behind his decision to join them instead of Chelsea
The Brazilian goalkeeper was heavily pursued by both Premier League giants last summer following a breakthrough campaign at AS Roma last season.
Liverpool eventually won the race for Alisson’s signature by making him the world’s most expensive keeper at €73m before Chelsea thrashed it soon afterwards by signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao for €80m.
Now Alisson has how revealed that the Reds’ history proved to have a decisive effect on his decision to chose them over Chelsea, who had also fired coach Antonio Conte at the time following their fifth-place finish last season in the Premier League.
“Chelsea were changing their manager and not playing in the Champions League,” Alisson told FourFourTwo.
“I’ve also always admired Liverpool’s history. This is a club with five European Cups in their trophy cabinet. I really wanted to be part of that history.
“I came very close to winning the competition with Roma and I’m working hard to make it happen now with Liverpool. What’s life if not fighting for your dreams? I dream of winning the Champions League.”
Liverpool have won five European titles compared to Chelsea’s one along with 18 league crowns to the Blues’ six.
