Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has no doubts over Cristiano Ronaldo’s credentials for a record sixth Ballon d’Or award
The five-time winner is among the 30 players shortlisted for this year’s award along with former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric and long-time rival Lionel Messi.
Despite scoring 44 goals and inspiring Real to a third straight Champions League crown last season, Ronaldo was overlooked for both the FIFA and UEFA Player of the Year prizes in favour of Modric.
But the Portuguese forward is in no doubt whatsoever that he deserves a sixth Ballon d’Or and Allegri agrees given everything Ronaldo has accomplished.
“Cristiano deserves to win the Ballon d’Or for everything he’s done – the goals he’s scored, the trophies he’s won and what he’s doing this season too,” Allegri told the club website.
“He’s world-class. He’s taken us to another level because he’s brought international experience and he’s raised everyone’s belief.”
Ronaldo, who recently equalled a 61-year-old Juventus scoring record, will likely start once more in Saturday’s Serie A clash with Cagliari.
