Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is aiming for victory against Southampton on Wednesday with rival teams dropping points right now
Following a shock home defeat to Leicester City on December 22, Chelsea have since responded with back-to-back wins over Watford and Crystal Palace.
Due to a hectic festive schedule of games, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal have all lost valuable points.
And, with Chelsea now just two points adrift of third-place Spurs and five ahead of Arsenal, Alonso hopes they can continue to take advantage.
“It’s very difficult. You don’t have time for training, you can only play and have a good rest to get ready for the next one,” Alonso told Chelsea TV on Twitter.
“We’re seeing in the other fixtures it’s very difficult. Most of the teams are dropping points.
“It’s very important to get the three points.”
Manager Maurizio Sarri does have big concerns heading into Wednesday’s game against Southampton, however, with Olivier Giroud a doubt with an ankle injury.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Pedro, Cesc Fabregas and Callum Hudson-Odoi also remain doubts for the Blues after missing their 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.
