Alvaro Arbeloa has called on Real Madrid to sign Lionel Messi’s son, Mateo, after the Barcelona star revealed that he’s a fan of the club.
Messi has proven to be a constant problem for Real down the years after helping Barcelona beat them to 10 La Liga titles along with many other major honours.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 26 times in 39 games against Los Blancos to lead Barcelona to 19 victories over their big rivals across his glittering career.
And Messi was once again at the top of his game last season after scoring an incredible 51 goals in 50 appearances. He even chipped in another 22 assists to his tally as Barcelona secured back-to-back La Liga crowns.
However, not even Messi’s presence could spare Barcelona from their humiliating Champions League semi-final defeat to Liverpool. Valencia then handed the Catalan club another blow by beating them in last month’s Copa del Rey final.
And it turns out the 31-year-old gets ruthlessly trolled by none other than his own son.
“Thiago never misses a match,” Messi told TyC Sports.
“Mateo loves football, he wears all the shirts.
“We were playing at home and he said to me, ‘I’m Liverpool, who beat you’; ‘Valencia won, eh – I’m Valencia’.
“The TV is there, and he cheers Madrid’s goals to annoy his brother. He’s the one who is a Madrid fan.”
After this revelation, Arbeloa took to social media to give his old club Real advice on their summer transfer business.
“Let’s get him [Mateo] signed,” the former full-back wrote on Twitter.
Though, Messi is currently preparing for this summer’s Copa America in Brazil. Where he aims to erase the painful memory of their 2016 final defeat to Chile.
Argentina will take on Nicaragua in an international friendly in San Juan on Saturday. They will then meet Colombia in their Group B opener on June 16.
Paraguay and guests Qatar will also come up for Argentina in the group stages.
