It seems strange to suggest it, but Lionel Messi retiring from international football may be the best thing for both parties.
Messi is clearly frustrated with the whole set up. He struggles to live up to the expectation placed on his shoulders.
The rest of the team, meanwhile, look like their number one solution is to give the ball to him and hope. It’s a strategy that’s never going to work.
There is no proper balance to this team with Messi in it, and perhaps a separation would be best for both parties at this point.
