Carlo Ancelotti says he has great admiration for James Rodriguez but does not think a move for him to Everton this summer is likely.

Everton have shown significant improvement since Carlo Ancelotti’s appointment back in December last year.

The Everton hierarchy is convinced that Ancelotti is the right man to take the club forward. As as result, he has apparently been assured the club will make additions to their squad in a bid to compete at the top end of the Premier League.

One of the players rumored to be high up on his wishlist for this summer is Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez. Rodriguez joined Real Madrid in 2014 during the tenure of the Italian before following him to Bayern Munich on a loan move in 2017.

Ancelotti, however, albeit praising the Colombian, recently poured cold water over any such rumors.

“I like him a lot as a player,” Ancelotti told The Guardian.

“When I left Madrid, James Rodriguez followed me to Munich. But he followed me as a rumor to Napoli and now he is following me to Everton as a rumor.

“I have to be honest – I like him a lot. But he is a Real Madrid player and I think he will still be a Real Madrid player.”
