Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti knows first-hand just how great Cristiano Ronaldo is and backed him to win a record sixth Ballon d’Or
Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s decade-long dominance of the award is now under serious threat from Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric.
The Croatia international has won FIFA and UEFA’s Player of the Year awards after playing starring roles at the Champions League and World Cup last season.
Modric, along with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Mohamed Salah, is now gunning for football’s ultimate prize in the Ballon d’Or.
But Ancelotti, who managed Ronaldo and Modric at Real between 2013 to 2015, believes that there is only one clear winner.
“I am grateful to Ronaldo, regardless of the goals he scored to win the Champions League [at Madrid],” said Ancelotti in a press conference ahead of Napoli’s showdown with Juventus today.
“I am happy that he plays in Italy now, he is an added value to every team, I think he should always win the Ballon d’Or.”
The Italian coach also stated that he is confident that Napoli are ready for Juventus ahead of today’s clash in Turin.
