After completing a permanent move to the Goodison Park, Andre Gomes has admitted that he’s thankful for the opportunity given to him.
Everton made a major coup in the summer transfer window when they signed Andre Gomes from Barcelona on a permanent basis.
After seeing his career at Barcelona come to a stand-still, the Portugal international decided to seek a fresh challenge. And he was loaned out to Everton last summer. Clearly, the move to Merseyside helped Andre Gomes in rediscovering his love for the game.
Alongside Lucas Digne and Richarlison, Andre Gomes was one of the standout performers for Marcos Silva’s side. With an ability to spread passes from the heart of midfield and instigate attacking moves, Gomes has won over fans.
Everton were not given an option to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis by Barcelona. This invited interest from the likes of West Ham United and Tottenham. The Hammers even launched two failed bids for Gomes.
However, the player’s heart was always set for a move to the Goodison Park. And Gomes has revealed that he had already told Barcelona and the Toffees that he only intended to return to Everton. Moving to a new club was never even a question.
While speaking to Daily Star, Gomes said that he is aware of the effort Everton have put in order to have him. Now settled, Andre Gomes wants to improve.
He said: “I know the club made a massive effort to sign me and I’m very happy and thankful to them.
“I said during the year that I felt part of a family and that is the most important thing to me.
“I’m really, really happy to have this badge on me right now and I want to give all the fans my best because I think they deserve the best of each player.
“I’m happy to be here and I want to improve to give them joy.”
