The French forward says his international teammate is one of the best footballers he has ever seen and he backs him up for Real Madrid success.
Real Madrid’s striker Karim Benzema has been heavily criticized in the last two season.
In the 2017-2019 campaign, he only scored five league goals.
But now he’s scored 27 goals in 49 appearances.
And his fellow French countryman Andre-Pierre Gignac has backed Benzema.
“In Toulouse, I was 23 years old and a rival [to the league’s best strikers],” Gignac was quoted by Goal.
“I finished seven goals ahead of Karim Benzema, who was going to sign for Real Madrid at the time. It’s good for me because Karim remains the best ‘real’ number 9 in the world.”
Gignac has recently gained Mexican citizenship, after enjoying a successful spell with Mexican League side Tigres UANL.
“I’m a faithful boy,” he said.
“I spent five years in Lorient, three in Toulouse, five in Marseille, and now almost four at Tigres. I identify with this club. When I feel good, I stay, except if it is to give a plus to my career.”
